Vise grip locking pliers are a great invention for two reasons.  First, any wrench can slip on a bolt or other fastener due to moisture, stripped heads or simply a round head.  If the object to be turned has lubricant, WD 40 or oil on it, good luck turning it.  That is when a locking set of pliers comes in handy.  By tightening down the vise grip then squeezing the handle closed, this tool can turn the world, so long as you have the strength.  Which brings us to the second reason they work:  increased torque.  Let’s face it, as we age, we lose some strength.  These vise grip locking pliers allow for all the torque or turning strength to go directly to the fastener or object being turned.  There is almost no loss of power.
