A red laser light illuminates to show where you are aiming at.  After a few seconds, the display shows the temperature.  This is important because if the air is not in the 50’s or low 60’s for an air conditioning system, the house will likely not cool down in the summer.  The same goes for a heating unit.  The air coming out must be 15 to 20 degrees warmer than the desired temperature or the unit will run all the time and never reach the target temperature.  The devices aren’t cheap but they do come in a variety of designs.  This is an optional piece of equipment that might save you a trip from the HVAC contractor.
