Buying Series – The Emotional Seller

Sellers come in all shapes and sizes. Founder/Managing Partner Lamar Hunt Jr. knows this because he has seen them all. One of the toughest sellers to deal with is the emotional seller. This seller usually has lost a loved and is selling “Momma’s” house. A buyer must recognize the emotions the seller is going through and feel empathy. You can’t just charge in and quote a price to buy the home. The seller needs to work through their feelings as they see the place where they grew up, their favorite tree, the place where they buried their favorite dog, their first Christmas, a memorable Halloween and all those experiences that we have as we grow from a child to an adult. It’s very hard for some sellers to let go. They may cry and be distraught. The best advice to a buyer in this circumstance is to take your time and let the seller work through their feelings. Give them space to make a decision and perhaps even come back another time but be sure to follow up and see how they are doing. Eventually, you may have a deal. Just take your time.
